Job Description

Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) – Saskatoon and University of Saskatchewan, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition is expanding, seeking two full-time Pediatric Gastroenterologists to join our team and help to grow the province’s pediatric gastroenterology (GI) platform.

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology is a multidisciplinary team environment and actively participates in developing and guiding strategies for improving the health and care of Saskatchewan children. Established in 2017, the division has grown into a strong team comprising of pediatric gastroenterologists, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers, endoscopy staff and our medical office assistant. Our additional pediatric GI platforms include a diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy service, a biologic infusions center, a liver transplant clinic, a rapid access celiac service and an emerging TPN program. Together we provide care to over 1,700 patients in the province, performing over 200 endoscopies per year. Quality improvement initiatives are utilized to facilitate optimization through the intersection between academic research and clinical practice. Research collaboration in inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal failure networks provide opportunities for participation in and initiation of multi-center studies.

The position will have an emphasis on patient care in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Opportunities for teaching are available, as medical students and residents attend clinics and patient rounds during clinical rotations. The division is proud to be part of the new Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH). The new hospital offers state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for children, mothers and families from across our province. JPCH is centrally located on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon. The successful applicants will provide clinical and academic services as members of the Department of Pediatrics and will hold appointments with both the University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Appointment with the university will be at the assistant, associate or full professor level. The positions are full time (1.0 FTE), with 0.80FTE clinical, 0.2FTE academic and equitable call coverage.

Job Qualifications

Applicants in consideration require an MD degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university with fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, and clinical procedural skills to support both outpatient and inpatient consultative services. Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS).

Successful candidates will be offered a Focused Funding for Priority Specialist Recruitment incentive, available through the Saskatchewan Medical Association's Specialist Recruitment and Retention Committee, which will provide $30,000 to an eligible specialist. The physician must establish a practice for a minimum of thirty-six months in Saskatchewan.
