Job Description

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is seeking a locum psychiatrist to provide a generalized psychiatry service in Yorkton, SK and area. The position provides opportunity to work in broad areas of psychiatry ranging from children and adolescents to a senior population. The locum psychiatrist will be part of the multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, social workers, and psychologists and addiction counselors. He or she will be expected to provide leadership for the team in a collegial approach and be ready to work with external bodies as required. In addition to regular clinic, the locum psychiatrist will provide in-patient service, emergency coverage on a rotational basis and may travel to satellite clinics to provide services.

Job Qualifications

  • Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have a valid letter of eligibility
  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) or be eligible for
  • A valid drivers license
  • Legal entitlement to work in Canada
  • Minimum of 3 acceptable references
  • An acceptable criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
  • Experience providing Generalist Psychiatry services within a catchment model
  • Demonstrable evidence in multidisciplinary approach of care/management
  • Understanding of Saskatchewan provincial laws and regulations of commitment and release of the mentally ill under the Mental Health Services Act would be an asset
  • In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents

Additional Information

The Yorkton Mental Health Centre has a 10-bed in-patient unit. Extensive community services made up of Child and Youth, Adult and Addiction Services, long-term rehabilitation programs; residential and apartment supportive living programs, group and transitional homes in Yorkton for rehabilitation. Staffing includes mental health therapists, nursing (in-patient and community), social workers, addiction counselors and psychologists.
