The Saskatchewan Health Authority is looking for psychiatrists to join our Mental Health Team in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. You would be working with a multi-disciplinary group that includes four other psychiatrists and various other mental health professionals at the Battlefords Mental Health Centre. The incumbent will be responsible for outpatient and inpatient services, as well as emergency, after-hours call coverage in a 1-in-8 rotation. The Battlefords Mental Health Centre is a 22-bed acute inpatient unit attached to the Battlefords Union Hospital. Typically each psychiatrist will be responsible for the care of 5 or 6 in-patients, with afternoons devoted to out-patient follow-ups. Although some adolescent and elderly patients are treated on the unit, the majority of the clinical work is general adult psychiatry.
North Battleford is also home to the Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford, which is the only Psychiatric Rehabilitation Hospital and Forensic Services Program in the province. A new 284 bed facility is currently being constructed, replacing the existing 105-year-old facility, with opening slated for late summer 2018. The new facility will provide recovery-based treatment for 188 patients with chronic mental illness or those requiring court-ordered assessments, plus innovative therapy/risk-reduction programs for an additional 96 serving prisoners in 4 integrated Mental Health/Correctional units connected to the main Hospital. The new-Saskatchewan Hospital will form part of the training circuit for the Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry program at the University of Saskatchewan. Psychiatrists at the Battlefords Mental Health Centre work closely with psychiatrists at the Saskatchewan Hospital through a shared on-call rota and Journal Club.
