Job Description

The Saskatchewan Health Authority – Saskatoon Area, in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan, Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM), is inviting applications for eight full-time General Internal Medicine specialists. These new positions are part of the Saskatoon City Hospital (SCH) Optimization Project, which includes the addition of 60 new medicine beds at SCH and an expanded GIM presence across Saskatoon.

The Division of General Internal Medicine is a large, vibrant, and collegial group within the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the University of Saskatchewan. With this expansion, successful candidates will provide services across all three acute care hospitals in Saskatoon:

  • Royal University Hospital (RUH)
  • St. Paul's Hospital (SPH)
  • Saskatoon City Hospital (SCH)

In addition to hospital-based inpatient admitting and consultative services, physicians will have opportunities for outpatient practice and academic contributions through the College of Medicine, including clinical teaching and research. Many GIM physicians maintain practices in private office settings in Saskatoon, and new members will have the opportunity to join these established practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (or eligibility) in General Internal Medicine
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS)

The University

The beautiful University of Saskatchewan campus is located on the shores of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon, a city with a diverse and thriving economic base and a vibrant cultural life. The UofS is a research-intensive institution with 26,000 students and 6,500 faculty and staff, and a strong reputation for innovation and excellence. It is home to the newly constructed Academic Health Sciences Complex and two of the largest science projects in the country – the Canadian Light Source synchrotron and the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization/International Vaccine Centre. A users group is available for collaborative research with clinical faculty using the $173.5 million Canadian Light Source synchrotron, owned by the University of Saskatchewan. The College of Medicine has an intake of 100 students per year with a commensurate number of positions for residency training.
